Borna Bonakdarpour is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Northwestern Feinberg School of medicine. As a Cognitive Neurologist and a clinical neuroscientist, he provides care to patients across Northwestern Memorial Hospital, integrating music-based interventions (MBIs) into his medical practice. His research focuses on understanding brain disease mechanisms and using non-pharmacological interventions like music to ease symptoms related to mental health, medical and neurological illness. Borna founded the Northwestern Music and Medicine Program (NMMP), which promotes research and delivers music interventions to improve health among patients and health care providers. As principal investigator for two NEA-funded research projects, his vision has been to offer music interventions across clinics and hospitals in Chicago. Borna has been a steadfast supporter of integrating music-based interventions in medical care and in 2019 won the American Music Therapy Association Advocacy Award.
