Vadim Backman

Vadim Backman is a professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department and a program leader in the Cancer and Physical Sciences at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received his B.S. in Physics at St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, his M.S. in Physics from St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute and MIT, and his PhD in Medical Engineering and Medical Physics at Harvard University. His research interests include optical imaging, minimally invasive optical diagnosis and imaging of early cancer, coherent backscattering spectroscopy for tissue diagnosis, fractal organization of cells and tissues, analysis of nano- and micro-architecture of living tissues using light scattering spectroscopy, light scattering and propagation in random/turbid media.
